Who is Andritz MeWa?
MeWa has been part of the Andritz Group since the year of 2013. Andritz is an international technology group active in various industries, for example in power generation (hydro power plants and hydro power stations) and environmental technology. The company ia a global supplier and employs approximately 27,000 people worldwide, operates over 280 sites and is headquartered in Graz, Austria. Andritz AG's German site is Andritz MeWa GmbH in Gechingen. Oher relevant companies of the group are Andritz Separation GmbH in Krefeld, Germany, Andritz Hydro in Ceske Budejovice, Czech republic and Andritz AG in St. Pölten, Austria.
An important business area of Andritz AG is Recycling. The acquisition of MeWa enabled Andritz to expand its portfolio in the waste management sector. Since then, the employees of Andritz MeWa GmbH have been responsible for both the manufacture and sale of shredding machines for waste materials. The integration of Andritz and MeWa proved to be particularly effective in the processing of electronic scrap. In addition to MeWa, Andritz AG also acquired Franssons. The company originally comes from the wood recycling sector.
By integrating MeWa and Franssons, Andritz AG can offer recycling technology and equipment for all sectors - from waste wood, plastics recycling, household, industrial and commercial waste to electronic scrap.
Recycling with Andritz MeWa
Andritz offers the right shredder for any input material. For this purpose, the company offers a range of shredders as well as turnkey plants - depending on the application and requirements. The product line of recycling shredders is called ADuro.
Electrical and electronic waste
The recycling of electrical and electronic scrap is about separating hazardous materials and recovering recyclable components. Therefore, shredding e-scrap is complicated and the shredders have to handle the material carefully. Two machines from Andritz are particularly suitable for this application: ADuroQZ and ADuroG. The latter excels in the fine shredding of computers, washing machines, bedside lamps and the like. It is important that the WEEE directive is always complied with when recycling e-waste. The shredders of the company have been developed accordingly.
Andritz also offers recycling systems for refrigerators and freezers, which are difficult to dispose of. The ADuro QZ is also used for this purpose. It breaks down a refrigerator into its individual components for further processing, for example into plastic, iron and polyurethane.
Most electrical appliances have cables. They require separate recycling. Andritz cable shredders can shred both simple household cables and high-voltage cables. Several processes are necessary to obtain almost pure metal particles as output: pre-shredding, granulation, sorting and separation of impurities. For the shredding of cable scrap, the ADuro C is suitable for pre-shredding, the ADuro G for fine shredding and the ADuro M as a granulator.
The company has a suitable system solution for all residual and waste metal materials. Components of the equipment are those powerful ADuro C pre-shredder and the efficient ADuro G fine shredder are suitable equipment for shredding aluminium profiles, cans or various metal composites. If, as with batteries, material separation is necessary, the ADuro QZ is available.
Old car parts and tyres
A car contains valuable recyclable materials. These must be sorted out. Parts made of metal can be shredded well, but must first be separated from foreign materials. An oil filter, for example, must first be freed from oil before the ADuro G shredder can cut it up. This machine is also suitable for aluminium rims.
Used tyres are broken down into their individual parts in several steps during recycling. The ADuroC takes over the pre-shredding process. The ADuro G shredder is responsible for granulation and at the end there is the ADuro M secondary shredder.
Waste from households and industry
For the recycling of household or industrial waste, Andritz uses a recycling plant that combines pre-shredding, sorting, drying and post-shredding. If the waste material is mixed, the ADuro QZ is usually used, as it can separate several material components from each other. Regular household or industrial waste ends up in the ADuro G shredder. For bulky materials, the powerful ADuro U comes into question, and for plastic waste, the ADuro S.
Agricultural waste, organic waste or food scraps can be recycled in such a way that they can eventually be used for energy in a biogas plant. Since organic waste often contains packaging material, the ADuro QZ shredder is also used here, as it separates the impurities in a single step.
Waste wood and residual wood
Andritz also offers suitable machines for waste wood and residual wood recycling: for old boards, pallets, veneers or other construction timber. The slowly rotating ADuro P and ADuro U shredders are capable of converting large quantities of wood and bulky parts into the desired output size. If particularly small wood chips are to be produced after shredding, the ADuro F is the right choice. However, this can only be used for dry wood with a low moisture content.
Paper, cardboard and pulper braids
Several Andritz MeWa shredders are suitable for recycling paper. The ADuro M and ADuro F fine granulators are particularly suitable for waste paper and cardboard.
Paper recycling produces so-called pulp piles, accumulations of pulp and impurities such as small particles of plastic. These waste materials can be shredded in a system consisting of an ADuro C pre-shredder and an ADuro G post-shredder. The ADuro P single-shaft shredder can be used universally for all paper-based waste materials. Pulper braids from the paper industry can even be shredded in it in a single step.
