Comparatively, the W9-version is softer than the X-variant. Furthermore, the W9-option wears also faster. On the other hand, it has the advantage of increased toughness and is also insensitive to impurities.

Due to the through-hardening process, there is a uniform hardness from the edge layer to the core. This ensures persistent wear over the service life of the knife.

However, this version must not be armoured or welded on, as it negatively impacts the structure of the items. Consequently, fractures and machine damage are possible.
